ISO 9001 Certification of Mitsubishi Fuso Trucks

May 29, 2004. We have learnt from Yomiuri Shimbun that Japan Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment (JAB), Japan's highest-ranking ISO certification board, is putting pressure on Japan Gas Appliances Inspection Association (JIA), an examining corporation, to revoke its ISO 9001 quality management system certification of Mitsubishi Fuso. JIA is dragging its feet, and stated that "If possible, we'd like Mitsubishi to withdraw its certification itself." The certification will due to expire in August.

Earlier Stories

May 11, 2004. Japan Times reported that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has decided not to certify Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus vehicles fitted with 'F' type hubs until their safety is verified. It means the new models will have to wait.

May 18, 2004. Tokyo. Chinese paper,Xinhuanet, reported that Japan's Defense Agency has barred Mitsubishi Motors and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus from bidding for the agency's ordinary vehicle orders for one year.

May 13, 2004. Daily Yomiuri reported that Hiroshi Murakawa, former product quality head at Mitsubishi Motors, investigted the hub defect after a wheel came off a highway bus in Hiroshima Prefecture in 1999. He classified the defect as S1, the most critical rating (out of S1, S2, S3) but classified the action to be taken as grade D, on a scale from A-G, a grade that merely required continued observation and investigation. The transport ministry accuses Hiroshi Murakawa and his former employee Hirotoshi Miki, of falsely stating that no further actions were required because no more accidents had taken place. In reality they knew about 10 accidents happening after 1992, the agency claims. Murakawa and Miki are claiming their innocence.
